Alex M. Abel, MS, PhD has an extensive work experience in the fields of cell biology, molecular immunology, genetics, and virus-host interactions. In 2020, they began working as the VP of Cell Biology at LEAH Laboratories, where they are revolutionizing companion animal medicine with next-generation cellular therapies. Prior to that, they were a Technical Sales Consultant at Miltenyi Biotec from 2018 to 2020. From 2012 to 2018, they were a Graduate Research Assistant at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where they worked to elucidate the role of conserved scaffold proteins in innate lymphocyte signaling and function. From 2010 to 2012, they were a Graduate Researcher and Teaching Assistant at South Dakota State University, where they investigated virus-host interactions and managed an undergraduate research project. From 2007 to 2009, they were an Undergraduate Researcher and Academic Assistant at Buena Vista University, where they worked towards the generation of transgenic C. elegans and served as an Academic Assistant for Inorganic Chemistry. In 2009, they were a Student Researcher-LSSURP (NSF/REU) at the University of Minnesota.
Alex M. Abel received a High School Diploma from Winterset Senior High School in 2006. Alex M. then attended Buena Vista University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2010. Following this, they earned a Master of Science in Biological Sciences from South Dakota State University in 2012. Finally, they earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2018.
