Chief Data Scientist at Ledger Investing

Mark Shoun has had a diverse career background. From 2009 to 2014, they were a Trombonist in the United States Air Force, where they were the lead trombonist in a jazz band and featured soloist on approximately 70 public concerts per year. Mark was also head of communications for the unit, managing IT assets and technical training for 25 members. In 2014, they joined GEICO as a Lead Product Modeling Analyst, where they built sophisticated statistical models of customer riskiness and behavior to help the pricing department make better-informed decisions. Mark also supervised junior analysts on their projects. In 2017, they joined B23 LLC as a Senior Data Scientist. Finally, in 2018, they joined Ledger Investing as the Chief Data Scientist, leading a team that focuses on building sophisticated analytics for casualty insurance portfolios. Theirteam models casualty insurance for pricing insurance-linked securities, as well as loss reserving, portfolio seasoning, underwriting performance, and industry cycles.

Mark Shoun received their Bachelor's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2008, majoring in Jazz Performance. Mark then went on to pursue a Master's Degree in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University, which they completed in 2015.
