Lead Counsel - Compliance at Level

Mariam Gillis has a diverse and extensive work experience. Mariam currently holds the position of Lead Counsel - Compliance at Level since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Thrift Savings Plan from 2016 to 2022 in various roles. Mariam served as the Compliance & Governance Counsel, where they established a compliance program and provided leadership in administering the Compliance Division. Additionally, they created a more robust audit program and defined governance for the world's largest direct contribution plan. Mariam was also involved in the implementation of a newly created retirement system. Mariam also served as Office of the Executive Director Detail | Board Governance from 2018 to 2019.

Before their tenure at Thrift Savings Plan, Mariam worked at The White House as a Presidential Personnel Office Associate in 2016. Mariam'sresponsibilities included developing and supporting strategies to recruit a diverse federal workforce and providing guidance on vetting Presidential nominations.

Prior to their work at The White House, Mariam was employed at the Military Compensation & Retirement Modernization Commission from 2013 to 2016. Mariam served as a Senior Legal Counsel, playing an integral role in developing the implementation plan for a newly created retirement and benefits system for the uniformed services. Mariam also managed communications with various stakeholders and facilitated outreach programs at military installations.

Mariam also worked at The White House as an Office of White House Counsel Law Clerk from January to May 2013. During this role, they researched legal issues and provided advice to administration officials.

Earlier in their career, Mariam worked at Catholic Charities USA as a Case Manager for Refugee & Immigration Services in 2009. Mariam also served in the U.S. Department of Defense as an Operations Support Officer from 2004 to 2009.

Mariam's work experience also includes a role at the U.S. Department of Justice, where they contributed to investigations as a member of the Office of the Inspector General's Audit Division from 2000 to 2004. Mariam introduced data management strategies to streamline reporting processes.

Overall, Mariam Gillis has demonstrated expertise in compliance, governance, legal counsel, and policy development through their diverse work experience in both governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Mariam Gillis has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. Mariam then went on to obtain a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from The University of Alabama School of Law. Currently, Mariam is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) candidate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

In addition to their degrees, Mariam Gillis has obtained various certifications, including the Certified Information Privacy Professional - United States (CIPP/US) from the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals in September 2022. Mariam also holds the Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) certification from the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE), which they obtained in August 2018. Mariam is admitted to multiple legal institutions, including the Supreme Court of the United States, the Alabama State Bar, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.

Furthermore, they hold a certification in Anti-Money Laundering as a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMLS) from ACAMS, and they have a Top Secret (TS/SCI) Security Clearance from the United States Federal Government.
