Machine Learning Compiler Team Lead at Lightmatter

Eric Hein has a diverse work experience in the field of computer architecture and machine learning. Eric currently serves as the Machine Learning Compiler Team Lead at Lightmatter since April 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Machine Learning Compiler Engineer at Lightmatter from July 2020 to May 2022. Before joining Lightmatter, Eric worked at Emu Technology as a Computer Architect from June 2018 to July 2020, where they played multiple roles in the development of a novel computer architecture, including reviewing and improving instructions and modifications to the ISA, creating analytical models for system performance, and writing micro-benchmarks. Eric also worked as a Graduate Student Assistant at Georgia Tech Research Institute from July 2014 to May 2018, where they rewrote and upgraded compilers and code generators for domain-specific languages, optimized CUDA code, and participated in field testing of various technologies. Additionally, Eric worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Georgia Institute of Technology from September 2011 to May 2018, and as an Intern at NVIDIA in June-August 2013, where they wrote GPU assembly code and created tools for testing and validating implementations.

Eric Hein earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering from 2007 to 2011. Eric then pursued higher education at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they obtained a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from 2011 to 2015, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in the same field from 2011 to 2018.
