Franklin Ross

Staff Engineer at Linktree

Franklin Ross is a code-writing, Linktree-using fabulosity from August 2019 to the present day. Prior to that, they were a Software Engineer at MYOB from December 2016 to May 2019. There, they were involved in the architecture of the application and contributed significantly to improving quality and stability of the software, as well as its data sanitation. The project was large, with most code in C# and TypeScript, an AngularJS front end, and most data stored using an SQL database via EntityFramework. Ross also used AWS as the backend but also supported completely internal installations due to hospital security requirements. Some key achievements include rewriting a Windows Service and associated server code for uploading medical images and videos from client machines to MYOB's server - which improved upload speed from multiple minutes in the average case down to a few seconds. Ross also removed a server bottleneck that had caused several outages under heavy load. Additionally, they converted the front-end build system to Webpack 4 from an ad-hoc collection of Visual Studio plugins and scripts. Lastly, they undertook a number of large database migrations to remove dead wood, add sensible cascades and constraints, and optimise column types/indexes.

Franklin Ross graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Systems Engineering from Monash University. Franklin then went on to earn their Certificate 4 in Small Business Management from the Box Hill Institute.
