James Whicker has been working in the engineering field since 2015. James began their career as a Graduate Research Engineer at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). During their time at MTC, they worked on developing automated defect recognition programs in Python and Halcon for both photographic data and X-ray computed tomography, as well as hyperspectral imaging experiments and analysis for industrial imaging applications, and the development of laser ultrasonic testing for in-process inspection. In 2019, they moved to Creavo Medical Technologies Ltd as a Research Engineer. In 2020, they joined Quantum Detectors Ltd. as a Detector Engineer, where they were the technical lead for the HEXITEC hyperspectral X-ray camera, and was responsible for overseeing software and hardware upgrades, as well as further developing the Merlin software and hardware platform. In 2022, they moved to Living Optics as a Research and Development Engineer.
James Whicker attended Watford Grammar School for Boys from 2004 to 2011. James then went on to Durham University, where they obtained a Master of Physics (MPhys) in Physics in 2015. In 2020, they received a certification in Machine Learning from Coursera.
