Research Technician at Locus Biosciences

Jaden Skelly is a research technician at Locus Biosciences. Prior to joining Locus, Skelly interned at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). At NIEHS, Skelly performed computational analysis utilizing Microsoft Excel and Python through Jupyter Lab and developed a better understanding of how to be a pathfinder amidst massive datasets with many thanks to the mentorship of Dr. Steve Wu and Dr. Chloe Li. Skelly reported the findings of their summer studies on progesterone receptor signaling in human myometrial cells at the 2021 NIEHS Summer Intern Poster Session. Additionally, Skelly engaged in a journal club and various seminars to further investigate other fields of study and evaluate potential applications towards their own research.

At NIH, Skelly attended the 2020 NIH Virtual Summer Enrichment Program as a partial replacement for the 2020 NIH Intramural Summer Internship Program (SIP) that was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. During their time at NIH, Skelly refined their professional communication skills and developed resilience practices by reflecting on “Becoming a Resilient Scientist Series” as well as participating in the corresponding discussion groups. Additionally, Skelly learned about exciting NIH research and STEM career preparation through a variety of unique lecture series.

Jaden Skelly completed their undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in biology with a focus on general studies. They then went on to earn an Associate of Science degree from Randolph Community College. Finally, they received certification from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Bachelor of Science in Biology with Honors.

They work with Joe Kenny - Translational Medicine Research Technician, Emily O’Koren - R&D Project Manager III, and David Kingsley - R&D Project Manager. Their manager is Ana Sanchez, VP of Research & Development Program Management.
