Job Summary

Directly responsible for the daily facilitation and coordination of educational programming for students in grades K-12 at Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) including virtual, campus, and off-campus school programs. Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of training sessions for all volunteer-led school programming as part of the Volunteer Development program. Monitors accuracy, enthusiasm, and overall quality of daily virtual, campus, and off-campus programs. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time, temporary position scheduled to begin on or around May 14, 2024 and end on October 1, 2024. Extension of the scheduled end date may be possible but is not guaranteed. This is a term position.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist STEM Education Manager with Partnerships in Education, including:
    • Coordination and facilitation of daily out-of-school time programming in partnership with Prime-Time Palm Beach County and the Children’s Services Council
      • Observation and review to determine if all goals are being reached and maintained
    • Facilitation of 7th Grade Community Experiences in partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County
  • Coordinate and manage LMC Field Trip program
    • Improve and maintain current program curricula
    • Expand Field Trip program portfolio
    • Tracking and training of program volunteers
  • Develop and maintain specialty workshop programs and relationships with homeschool groups
  • Assist with Marine Science Academy activities and Partnerships
  • Represent LMC at community STEM Educator events including: STEM Open House, Science symposiums and Science Nights
  • Develop, schedule, and facilitate training sessions for education volunteers to independently

lead educational programs at LMC

  • Plan and facilitate seasonal break camps (winter and spring break seasons)

  • Assist with the training of seasonal Education Interns in spring, summer, and fall semesters

  • Provide support to education staff to track program supply inventory & program metrics

  • Creation of educational digital resources for LMC website and blog

  • Work with the Education team to successfully facilitate campus events and related activities

  • Assist education team with departmental duties, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and two (2) years of experience working in marine science education

  • Self-motivated; passionate about ocean health and the importance of scientific communication

  • Must be extremely comfortable and thrive delivering environmental education programs for multigenerational groups, as well as the ability to organize small and large groups in dynamic environments and professional settings

  • Demonstrated understanding of marine science, current global issues affecting ocean health, as well as the ability to deliver a systems-thinking approach to program development

  • Must thrive in a highly-visible, learner-facing environment, including virtual, indoor and outdoor spaces and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Must pass an annual Level 2 background screening through DCF Clearinghouse.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position may involve working outdoors in Florida, often in hot and humid conditions, and at events that extend into evening and weekend hours. Must be willing and able to travel for offsite programming and possess a valid driver’s license.

This is a full-time, term position. The successful incumbent may be required to perform tasks beyond the scope of this job description as requested by the supervisor. This recruitment may be used to select candidates for additional open positions. It is our policy that all team members, including newly hired, transferred, and promoted team members, will be carefully monitored and evaluated for an initial introductory 3 month period on the job. After satisfactory completion of introductory evaluation, such team members will be evaluated annually.
