Ricardo Marques

Ricardo Marques has a diverse work experience across multiple industries. Ricardo most recently worked at Loka, starting in September 2022, where they served as a Machine Learning Team Lead. In this role, they worked on various projects, including intelligent video processing and traffic analytics system as well as crop yield prediction with remote sensing data and deep-learning technology.

Prior to their role at Loka, Ricardo worked at the United Nations as an Information Systems & Communication Technology Intern at the UN Logistic Base. During this time, they were involved in GIS systems and data-related projects, such as developing image-based road assessment systems and classifying the relative size of settlements.

Before their time at the United Nations, Ricardo worked as a Graduation Student Researcher at ITQB-UNL. Ricardo'sresearch focused on developing an Optical Neurostimulation Medical Implant using Optogenetic Technologies for regenerative medicine in CNS disorders. Ricardo achieved significant milestones such as developing a wireless energy transfer system and optimizing light stimulus for targeted cells.

Ricardo also has experience in the engineering field, specifically in motorcycle development. Ricardo served as a Structural Design Team Manager at TLMoto, overseeing a team and ensuring the design, manufacture, and assembly of motorcycle parts met engineering standards. Additionally, they worked as a Team Member Engineer in the same company.

From 2015 to 2019, they attended Instituto Superior Técnico, where they obtained a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Systems Engineering.

In 2018, Ricardo participated in an exchange program at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, where they pursued an MTech degree in Mechanical Engineering for one semester.

During the same year, they also participated in the Erasmus+ EU Program at Aarhus University, focusing on MTech Mechanical Engineering.
