Christopher Jones

Chief Risk Officer at London Metal Exchange

Christopher Jones has extensive work experience in the risk management field. Christopher began their career as a Credit Risk Analyst with LCH in 1993 and later transitioned to become a Senior Credit Analyst. In 1999, they took on the role of Director, Risk Projects, where they were responsible for the development of market and credit risk elements for new products. During this time, they played a key role in the creation of EquityClear's first use of Value-at-Risk in a CCP, which remains a market-leading tool.

Jones then served as an Executive Director, Head of Risk Management for LCH from 2000 to 2012. In this role, they oversaw market, credit, and operational risk across London and Paris, contributing to the development of EquityClear, RepoClear, and SwapClear risk management aspects. Christopher successfully managed the default of Lehman Brothers across multiple products, including OTC swaps, repos, ETD, and equities, as well as led the porting of clients across various business lines.

From 2012 to 2013, Jones held the position of Managing Director, Chief Risk Officer at LCH, where they continued to demonstrate their expertise in risk management. Christopher was responsible for risk management across LCH Clearnet globally, including Paris and the US. Christopher managed the default of MF Global, handling OTC repos, ETD, and equities, and overseeing client porting activities.

Most recently, Jones served as the Chief Risk Officer at LME Clear Limited from 2013 to 2018. In 2018, they joined the London Metal Exchange as the Chief Risk Officer, responsible for risk across trading, clearing, settlement, and associated activities. Christopher also became a member of the Excom at LME.

Christopher Jones attended St Albans School from 1982 to 1989. Christopher then went on to study Accounting and Finance at the University of Humberside from 1990 to 1993.
