Michael Sugimura

Michael Sugimura has a strong background in data science and has held various roles throughout their career. Michael is currently working as a Staff Data Scientist at LTK (formerly rewardStyle & LIKEtoKNOW.it). Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Data Scientist at Wayfair from December 2021 to October 2022.

Before joining Wayfair, Michael held a Senior Data Scientist position at ShopRunner from December 2018 to November 2021. During their time at ShopRunner, they developed and open sourced a framework for multi-task, multi-modal, multi-dataset training for large ensembles of neural networks. Michael also specialized in computer vision and deep neural networks, utilizing techniques such as object detection, segmentation, and GANs for fashion-related use cases.

Prior to ShopRunner, Michael worked as a Data Scientist at Booz Allen Hamilton. Michael worked on projects related to counterfeit art detection using Siamese Convolutional Neural Networks. Michael also had experience applying various machine learning techniques, particularly in natural language processing and neural networks, to public sector problems.

Before joining Booz Allen Hamilton, Michael worked as a Graduate Assistant at Georgetown University from September 2014 to May 2016. Michael also served as a Data Analytics Fellow at Georgetown University and Deloitte from May 2015 to February 2016, where they conducted research on anti-human trafficking in Malaysia.

Michael started their career as an Intern at the United States Senate SAA from April 2013 to September 2013.

Throughout their career, Michael has demonstrated expertise in data science, machine learning, and computer vision, particularly in the areas of multi-task modeling, automation, and unstructured data analysis.

Michael Sugimura completed their Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics at Dartmouth College from the period of 2010 to 2014. Following this, they pursued further education and obtained a Master's Degree in Public Policy Analysis from Georgetown University, which spanned from 2014 to 2016.
