Diego Martelino

Senior Research Scientist at Lucent Bio

Diego Martelino has a wealth of experience in research, having worked in a variety of roles since 2016. In 2016, they were a Student Researcher at the University of Victoria, where they worked on the multistep synthesis of π-extended cyclopentadiene ligands and their complex with lanthanide metal ions for applications in cancer therapy and bioimaging. From 2017 to 2020, they were a Graduate Student in Inorganic Chemistry at Simon Fraser University, where they specialized in the synthesis and characterization of bio-inspired transition metal complexes for applications in medicine and catalysis. In 2020, they were a Mitacs Globalink Research Fellow at Université Grenoble Alpes, where they spearheaded a collaborative research project between SFU and the University of Grenoble, synthesizing and probing the catalytic properties of novel metal carbene complexes featuring pro-radical ligand frameworks. In 2021, they began working as a Research Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry at Dalriada Drug Discovery, where they designed and executed multistep syntheses of organic small molecules for preclinical studies for cancer therapy, and purified and characterized them using flash chromatography, NMR, HPLC, and LC-MS/MS. Diego is currently working as a Senior Research Scientist at Lucent Bio.

Diego Martelino has a Master of Science degree in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry from Simon Fraser University, obtained between 2017 and 2020. Diego also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Victoria, obtained between 2012 and 2016. Additionally, they have obtained a Drug Development Product Management certification from UC San Diego in February 2022.
