About the role

We are hiring an Assistant Retail Manager to play a vital role in the expansion of our retail operations out of Magnum's gallery space in Paris. You will manage all aspects of our physical shop under the direction of the Retail & Publications Manager (London) and the Operations Manager (New York), from stock management to Front of House sales, and support our broader e-commerce business through fulfillment of orders to customers within Europe. You will also be responsible for the management of various product-orientated events within the Magnum Gallery, such as book launches and signings, and artist talks.

The Assistant Retail Manager will sit within the Digital Projects & eCommerce (DIPEC) team. Reporting to the Retail & Publications Manager (London), you would also support the Operations Manager (New York) and Global Director, Digital Projects & eCommerce (London), and champion collaboration internally, as well as externally with our suppliers and clients.

This role requires the candidate to work Tuesday–Saturday, 10am-7pm, for the majority of the year, with some evenings also required.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Sales & Operations

  • Manage retail operations out of our gallery space in the heart of Paris.
  • Proactively engage with the customers providing outstanding customer service; demonstrate a strong sales mentality by promoting shop products, our exhibition, print sales and the work of Magnum’s photographers.
  • Be a key source of knowledge surrounding Magnum products, exhibitions and other activity within the Paris environment.
  • Perform register transactions, including sales, email capture and gift wrapping when
  • Undertake regular inventory checks replenishing stock when needed.
  • Coordinate with the Retail & Publications Manager (London) and Operations Manager (New York) to ensure the latest book and product offerings are stocked and sold from our Paris gallery space.
  • Support the Retail & Publications Manager (London) in compiling regular sales reports; act as a bridge between the Finance team and the Retail & Publications Manager ensuring payments are collected, invoices are paid and accounts are properly maintained.
  • Populate and maintain online product listings accounting for current stock levels and applicable local shipping parameters, working closely with Magnum’s web developers regarding any inaccuracies within backend platforms.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Fulfillment

  • Fulfill orders of selected product lines out of our Paris office Including managing inventory, packing and shipping, in collaboration with the Operations & Retail team.
  • Work closely with the Operations & Retail team to expand our European fulfillment capabilities.

Events

  • Work under direction of the Retail & Publications Manager (London) to organize talks and book signings, working with relevant internal teams to support customer awareness and amplify sales, and collaborate with external organizations (such as galleries or book fairs) to promote and publicize Magnum books and products.
  • Assist our Retail & Publications Manager (London) at various industry events including book fairs and festivals; represent Magnum and its photographers to the highest level.

Wholesale

  • Support the DiPEC team’s wholesale strategy by responding to wholesale requests with B2B clients, museum and galleries from within France and neighboring countries.
  • Exploring new wholesale partnerships and proactively reaching out to potential partners within France and neighboring countries.
  • Assisting with admin for wholesale and consignment partnerships; generate invoices and keep track of outstanding invoices.

General Support

  • Assist with some office-related administrative tasks, such as answering and forwarding incoming phone calls when working Front of House.
  • When available, welcome visitors of the gallery and liaise them with the gallery team when needed.
  • Occasionally provide assistance to couriers.
  • Present a professional attitude.

Who you are

  • Fluent in both French and English.

  • A minimum of 1 year experience in retail.
  • Strong organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills.

  • Proficiency with POS, Word, Excel and Wordpress.
  • Financially literate and confident in managing budgets.

  • An excellent relationship builder with strong communication skills - you enjoy networking, building new relationships and getting to know team members and partners.

  • Strong knowledge/experience in the arts and cultural sector, specializing in photography is a bonus.

Location & Important information

  • Paris, 68 rue Léon Frot - 75011.
  • Full time position 10am to 7pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
  • Long term contract (CDI).
  • Office-based.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.

Compensation

  • €30,000 per annum (including 13th month).
