Nelson Chan has over twelve years of work experience in the technology and research industry. In 2020, Nelson began working as a Product Designer at Mahmee, where they collaborate with senior designers, product managers, and leadership to deliver new features and improvements to the Mahmee care provider platform. Nelson is also responsible for maintaining a rapidly-growing design system for desktop, tablet, and mobile screen sizes. From 2017 to 2020, Nelson worked as an Interaction Designer at Internet Brands, where they delivered high-fidelity mockups and prototypes for health SaaS platforms. Nelson also lead the product design for Demandforce's Covid-19 Hub, assisting its 14,000+ clients to communicate new social-distancing policies. In 2017, Nelson took on a pro bono role as a UX Researcher & Designer for Rebarr, where they redesigned the branding, user flow, and UI for an iOS/Android app. From 2009 to 2017, Nelson worked as a Survey Researcher at the Transportation Sustainability Research Center, researching human behavior and interactions with the existing transportation network. Additionally, they collaborated with a tech startup developing a driver interface to promote fuel-efficient driving techniques. In 2008, Nelson worked as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the Nanomaterials & Membrane Technology Research Laboratory, where they collaborated with the laboratory team researching the use of nanotechnology in water purification, renewable energy, and environmental protection.

Nelson Chan attended the University of California, Los Angeles from 2005 to 2009, where they earned a B.S. in Civil & Environmental Engineering. Nelson then attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2009 to 2011, where they earned an M.Eng. in Civil & Environmental Engineering. In January of 2010, they obtained an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification from the State of California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. In 2016, they attended General Assembly and completed a User Experience Design Immersive program.
