Kristján Valur Jónsson began their career in 1992 as a senior software engineer at OZ Communications. Kristján worked there for six years before moving to mental images in 1998. At mental images, they worked as a graphical software engineer for five years. In 2003, they began working at CCP as a senior software architect. Kristján worked on the design, implementation, and maintenance of the core game engine, including the "blue" c++ framework, scripting engine interface, Direct3D rendering engine and framework, database engine interface, resource management and networking interface. Kristján also integrated and maintained the Stackless Python engine, Python and C-Python development. Kristján researched and designed future core technologies, and did low level network engineering. Kristján led best practices with Stackless Python concurrent programming. Kristján left CCP in 2014 to become the CTO of Atmo Select. At Atmo Select, they managed the development of both hardware and software solutions allowing the delivery of customized music content to businesses through the cloud. In 2017, they became the chief technical architect of RVX. Kristján left RVX in 2019 to become a specialist at Mainframe Industries.

Kristján Valur Jónsson received a CSc in Mechanical Engineering from Háskóli Íslands and also studied at the New England Complex Systems Institute. Kristján took their Stúdentspróf at Menntaskólinn við Sund.
