Bernard Casey

Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific at Mainstream Renewable Power

Bernard was appointed Chief Operating Officer, APAC in June 2021 and holds responsibility for the company’s health and safety, project development, construction, and operational activities in the region.

He retains the role of Development Director – Vietnam, with overall responsibility for the development of the 1,400 MW Phu Cuong offshore wind farm, working closely with Mainstream’s joint venture partner for the project, the Phu Cuong Group.

Bernard joined Mainstream in 2009 as Head of Civil Engineering, and later, as Head of Offshore Engineering, played an instrumental role in Mainstream’s two flagship offshore projects: the 4 GW Hornsea zone off the coast of England – subsequently sold to Ørsted –and the 450 MW Neart na Gaoithe site in Scotland. Following the sale of that project to EDF Renewables in 2018, he was appointed Group Head of Asset Engineering.

Between 2006 and 2008, Bernard worked in Vietnam as Project Manager constructing the Hai Phong thermal power plant while working for Irish utility, ESB International.

His area of academic qualification is in civil and geotechnical engineering and he has experience in all aspects of power generation from design through construction and operation.

Bernard graduated from University College Dublin with a first-class honours degree in civil engineering and has a master’s degree at Imperial College, London in Soil Mechanics and Engineering Seismology. He is a former Chairman of the Geotechnical Society of Ireland.
