We’re on the lookout for a Pavement Design Engineer to join our team! This role is perfect for those with a solid background in pavement design and a passion for creating durable, safe, and cost-effective pavement systems. 

PAVEMENT DESIGN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct comprehensive pavement assessments to ascertain quality of existing conditions and provide solutions based on Owner requirements
  • Prepare bid documents, technical specifications, drawings and specific construction details
  • Participate in pre-bid, pre-construction, and project meetings, as well as client interfacing activities
  • Prepare cost estimates for repair, restoration, maintenance and replacement for both individual properties and multi-property portfolios
  • Use specialized software to simulate pavement behavior under different conditions.
  • Work closely with the engineering team, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate pavement projects.
  • Analyze traffic loads, soil characteristics, and environmental factors to determine the thickness and composition of pavement layers.
  • Research and design new ideas for products and systems.
  • Ensure that designs are functional, safe, and compliant.
  • Present designs and demonstrations for client approval.
  • Develop and optimize structural and functional aspects of asphalt and pavement systems.
  • Estimate the cost associated with different pavement design options.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders to determine project briefs.

PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a liaison between the owner and the pavement contractor
  • Read, understand, and be familiar with the related contract and specifications.
  • Report accurate progress of projects, confirm correct installation methods, and adherence to change orders.
  • Monitor final construction phases to address any final technical problems.

PAVEMENT INSPECTION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inventory pavement conditions, identifying good, fair and poor pavements.
  • Identify pavement defects and repair solutions.
  • Forecast future performance of the pavement using pavement degradation curves.
  • Develop budgets for total cost of ownership, including maintenance, repair, and capital renewal
  • Work with owner customers to schedule maintenance and repair.
  • Maintain all pavement condition data, budgets, performance data, and other information needed to manage customers’ pavement assets.

What You Bring to the Table

  • 3-5 years in pavement/asphalt design, including on-site project monitoring.
  • Strong communication skills, both written + verbal.
  • A solutions-oriented attitude.
  • Proven experience in construction, with a sharp eye for quality in pavement projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Confident public speaker with the ability to organize + deliver presentations.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire our ground crew.
  • A readiness to travel extensively to where our projects take you.
  • A history of hands-on work paired with client-facing experience.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt, including skills like roofing inspections, to support diverse work requirements.
  • Clean + effective interpersonal skills.
