Monty Schmitt

Board President at Marin Water

Monty Schmitt has a diverse work experience in the field of water resources and conservation. Monty started their career as a Restoration Assistant at The Nature Conservancy in 1992 and later became an Assistant Director at Ventana Wilderness Society from 1994 to 1997. Monty then joined the Natural Resources Defense Council in 2000 as a Senior Water Resources Scientist, where they worked until 2016. During this time, they also served as the Senior Project Director in the Water Program at The Nature Conservancy starting in 2016. Currently, Monty is the Director at Marin Municipal Water District, a position they have held since December 2020.

Monty Schmitt earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Environmental Studies and Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, from 1989 to 1992. Later, from 1997 to 1999, Monty Schmitt pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Watershed Management at Humboldt State University.
