Marine Biological Laboratory
Zak Swartz is an Assistant Scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory since November 2022, focusing on the molecular mechanisms involved in egg development from precursor cells in sea stars and their relatives. Previously, Zak has served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Whitehead Institute since June 2015, exploring cellular and reproductive aging using oocytes and human cell culture. Zak holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Biology and Embryology from Brown University, where research was conducted on stem cell creation in animal development from September 2008 to April 2015, and obtained a B.S. in Developmental Biology from the University of Rochester from 2003 to 2007.
