Sidney McLaurin

Partner at Material Impact

Sidney McLaurin joined Material Impact as a partner in 2020. He focuses primarily on scaling technologies that increase efficiency while reducing demand on environmental resources.

Prior to Material Impact, Sidney was a general manager at Lime. Shortly after joining the company in 2017, then known as Limebike, he launched its first-ever operational market. Over the next few years, Sidney launched and managed over 30 markets around the globe, including some of Lime’s most successful operations.

Before Lime, Sidney spent several years at Siemens, managing the company’s industrial computer (IPC) portfolio in the early days of pc-based control. During his time leading the IPC business, he scaled revenue in the US by 4X, working hand-in-hand with Fortune 500 customers to adopt and scale up innovative technologies. He credits this experience with his decision to pivot and help start-ups navigate the challenges that accompany disruption.

Sidney also brings experience as an associate with several venture firms, including Kapor Capital and Qualcomm Ventures. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida and an MBA and Master of Environmental Management from Duke University. Sidney calls Jackson, Mississippi home, and admits to being an avid “hobbyist.” Lately, you can find him golfing, enjoying the nearest body of water, or playing with the latest tech gadget.
