Basam E. Nabulsi

Stamford Office Managing Partner at McCarter & English

Basam Nabulsi has delivered valued counsel to innovative technology companies in strategic IP portfolio management for 30-plus years. In addition to his significant experience as in-house counsel and a private practice lawyer, Bas leverages his engineering background and familiarity with product development and commercialization in his work. He brings a deep understanding of chemical, mechanical, and electromechanical engineering as well as the dynamic fields of “business method” patents and software-based technologies.

Bas serves as chief IP counsel for clients who lack in-house expertise, including industrial companies, entrepreneurial ventures, medical device clients, and university technology transfer offices. He offers clients valuable guidance on the intersection of IP concerns and other business issues, frequently advising on transactions involving IP assets on behalf of buyers and sellers. He works closely with McCarter’s corporate teams in financing transactions to assess potential IP risks and vet the full spectrum of IP issues that impact the valuation process. He also remains involved in all aspects of IP litigation, working with trial teams on cases heading to injunction hearings, trial, arbitration, and appeal.

Bas was the founding partner of their Stamford office and remains involved in various initiatives. He provides hands-on mentoring and growth opportunities for associates across multiple offices. An active member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, he spearheaded their partnership with Connecticut Legal Services to develop a Pardons Clinic to help low-income individuals apply for a pardon for their criminal convictions and get a fresh start on stable housing and employment opportunities.

Bas is an adjunct professor in IP law and IP licensing at Quinnipiac Law School. An active member of his community, he serves on the boards of World Affairs Forum, Stamford Innovation Week, and Connecticut Legal Services and on the Planning & Zoning Commission in Wilton, CT.
