Amanda Khoo

Amanda Khoo, MSc, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Amanda is currently employed as a Senior Data Scientist at Mediar Therapeutics. In this role, Amanda is responsible for analyzing and exploring large genomic and proteomic datasets, working closely with lab scientists to generate biological insights and hypotheses.

Prior to their current position, Amanda worked as a Data Science for All Fellow at Correlation One. During this program, they gained valuable experience in data science.

Amanda's educational background includes a Master's degree in Data Science and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University. Their doctoral research focused on profiling cancer cell invasion and plasticity in biomimetic materials. Amanda completed their doctoral education under the supervision of Dr. Ian Wong.

Earlier in their career, Amanda held various roles at the Santa Clara University Bioengineering Department. Amanda worked as a student researcher, focusing on projects related to the movement of exosomes and HIV research. Amanda also served as an engineering peer advisor, mentor, and tour guide for freshman engineering students. Amanda obtained grant funding for their research projects and was actively involved in planning and leading school-wide events.

Amanda's work experience also includes a role as a US Ambassador for the International Summer Academy of Pharmacy (ISAP) program in Shanghai, China. Amanda organized and led a group of bioengineers to participate in the program, which focused on traditional Chinese medicine and international pharmaceutical practices.

Early in their career, Amanda gained experience as a student intern at the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute. Amanda focused on regenerative therapies for cardiovascular disease and the cell response to mechanical stressors. Their contributions led to two publications in this field.

Additionally, Amanda had an internship with the City of San Jose, where they worked with Vice Mayor Madison Nguyen to help plan the annual "National Night Out" event, aimed at community-based crime prevention.
