Niels Peyre has extensive work experience in the renewable energy industry, specifically in wind engineering. Niels currently holds the position of Wind Engineering Manager at Meridian Energy since November 2021. Prior to this role, they worked as a Senior Wind Engineer at Meridian Energy from June 2019.
Before joining Meridian Energy, Niels worked at Wood from May 2016 to May 2019. Niels held the position of Senior Wind Engineer and Certified Drone Pilot. During their time at Wood, Niels studied wind measurements, solar resources, production and acoustic data, and carried out long-term energy yield assessments, technical due diligence, and operational analyses for over 2 GW of renewable assets. Niels also developed Wood's energy yield assessment services in France and internationally, as well as brought group expertise to the French market for operational optimization, lidar, and acoustic measurement services.
Prior to Wood, Niels worked at DNV GL from February 2014 to May 2016 as a Wind Farm Analyst in the Asset Management and Optimization Services department. In this role, they delivered wind farm analyses for developers, owners, banks, and investors, analyzing wind measurement campaigns, site suitability, production data, historical performance, and availability for over 1 GW of assets. Niels also supported the development of third-party independent services such as short-term forecasting and operational monitoring.
Before their roles at Wood and DNV GL, Niels gained internship experience at La Compagnie du Vent (GDF-Suez) in the Measure, Study, and Innovation Department in 2013, as well as at Urban Green Energy in the Engineering team in 2012. Niels also worked as an Assistant Researcher at The University of Auckland in 2012, and as an Assistant Engineer at the French Commission for Nuclear and Alternative Energies (CEA) in 2011. Niels briefly worked as an Operator at Oxygravure in 2011 as well.
Niels Peyre obtained a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the French Institute for Advanced Mechanics, Mines Telecom group, where they studied from 2009 to 2013. In 2011, they also attended Linköping University for a brief period to study Energy Production and Mechanics. Prior to these, they attended Lycée Joffre from 2007 to 2009, where they focused on Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering Sciences.
In addition to their academic qualifications, Niels Peyre also obtained certifications in the field of aviation. In November 2018, they received a Drone Pilot Certificate from the French Civil Aviation. Niels also obtained a Light Motorised Aircraft Certificate from the same institution in June 2018.
