Weidong Shao

Co-founder and Chief Cryptographic Architect at Meter

Weidong Shao has a wealth of experience in the tech industry. Weidong started their career at Cisco in 2001 as a Technical Leader in the Call Manager Security Team of the Voice Technology Group. In 2006, they became a Senior Software Engineer at Google, where they developed custom features for ISP and EDU customers. From 2012 to 2018, they were a Principal System Architect at Futurewei Technologies, Inc., where they identified next-generation technologies through university and industry collaboration, as well as strategic planning on trust computing, hardware-based TEE and attestation, privacy-preserving data analytics, user data security and privacy. Weidong was also the Director of Engineering at Huawei Cloud Computing Lab, US, where they led OPNFV strategy and community development, and was the PTL for compass4nfv. In 2018, they co-founded Meter and served as Chief Cryptographic Architect. Currently, they are the Senior Director of Neural Network Tools and Data Platform at Black Sesame Technologies Inc.

Weidong Shao obtained a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University between 1986 and 1991. Weidong then went on to receive an MSEE from the University of Maryland between 1992 and 1994. After that, they earned a Master of Science in Computational Mathematics and Engineering from Stanford University between 2007 and 2009. In 2006, they obtained a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from (ISC)². Finally, in 2018, they obtained an AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate from Amazon.
