Aaron Maertins has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Aaron began their career in 2008 as a Student Intern at the New River Land Trust. In 2009 and 2010, they served as a Summer College Intern at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. In 2010, they worked as a Bus Operator I, Fill-In Dispatcher, and Line Instructor at the Town of Blacksburg. Aaron also interned as a Transportation Planning Intern at the same company during that time. In 2011, they were a Management Summer Intern at the Port Authority of NY & NJ. From 2012 to 2014, they worked at the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, where they held various roles, including Transit Planning Analyst and Transit Operations Planner II. Since 2014, they have been employed at Metra Commuter Rail, serving in roles such as Service Analyst, Manager of Transportation Planning, Data Analytics Manager, and currently as the Director of Operations Planning & Project Management. Overall, Aaron Maertins has gained extensive experience in transportation planning, project management, and data analytics throughout their career.

Aaron Maertins earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of Illinois Chicago from 2016 to 2018. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public and Urban Affairs from Virginia Tech between 2008 and 2012. In addition, Aaron has also received a Certificate from The Institute of Asset Management in 2020.
