Benefits Manager at The Metropolitan Opera

Melissa Amey is the current Benefits Manager at The Metropolitan Opera. Melissa has previous experience as the Director of Environmental Health and Safety at Hunter College from August 2020 to July 2022. As a third-party consultant, they assisted in the transition of leadership and the safe reopening of the Hunter College Campus and Campus Schools K-12 regarding COVID-19.

Melissa transitioned to the Director of EHS in April 2021, providing leadership in academic and administrative operations regarding environmental health and safety. Melissa led the application of enforcement of all federal, state and local environmental health and occupational safety regulations, and other University policies. Melissa drove and maintained accountability for EHS performance by fostering teamwork across all academic and operational departments to achieve overall compliance through collaboration. Melissa planned and formulated environmental health and safety policies and programs to align with University-wide program and policies. Melissa established protocols and procedures to assist in identifying hazards and assessing risks through inspections and investigations. Melissa operated and maintained budgetary oversight of overall departmental budget. Melissa oversaw campus and environmental sustainability management programs. Melissa was responsible for overall EPA, OSHA, CDC, NIH, NFPA, State and Local compliance across departmental programs. Melissa established environmental health and safety procedures and policies to minimize risks. Melissa managed the COVID Monitoring Program for Hunter College and Hunter College Campus Schools.

Melissa served as an Integral Member of the Hunter College COVID Safety Reopening Committee. Melissa headed the newly created Office of the Environment at Hunter College combining the Sustainability and EHS departments. Melissa created and directed the launch of the new EHS website as well as a new online training portal that allows all staff and students to access regulatory-required and best practice EHS trainings online. Collaborating with Facility leadership, they created a Safety Training Promotion Pilot that will encourage the shift in culture through peer recognition and positive participation.

Melissa Amey has a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Environmental Health from Hunter College and a Bachelor's degree in Geography from Montclair State University.

Melissa Amey reports to Corliss Cobham, Associate Director, Human Resources. They work with Lindsey Olson - Benefits Specialist, Victoria Testa - HR Generalist, and Janella Damaskos - Human Resources Administrator.
