John Malcolm

Lead Mechanical Engineer at MicroVision

John Malcolm has a diverse work experience in the field of mechanical engineering. John started their career as a Mechanical Engineer Intern at Applied Precision, Inc., where they supported the design and documentation of semiconductor wafer inspection systems. John later worked as a Mechanical Engineer at the same company, where they designed a high-precision microscope stage and visited customer sites for troubleshooting.

John then joined Rudolph Technologies as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, where they were responsible for the mechanical design and documentation of metrology instruments for the semiconductor industry. John designed an optics block for a semiconductor probe card analyzer and developed an automated kinematic metrology plate storage system.

John then moved to Applied Precision, Inc. after it was acquired by GE Healthcare Biosciences. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, they were involved in the hardware development of a super-resolution microscope. John designed a galvanometer-controlled shuttering mechanism and an electronics chassis for laser illumination.

At GE HEALTHCARE BIO-SCIENCE CORP, John was a Senior Mechanical Engineer and Project Hardware Team Lead. John led a cross-functional team in developing a super-resolution microscope for disease research. John also acted as a Scrum Master for the implementation of agile project methodology.

John then worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where they collaborated with optical, electrical, and industrial designers in the mechanical design of life sciences research projects. John designed key components for a miniature imaging system.

Before joining MicroVision, John returned to MicroVision Inc., where they served as a Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer. John was responsible for the mechanical design of MEMS-based consumer electronics laser beam scanning display and IR imaging projects. John quickly iterated concepts for product performance and ensured mass production capability.

Currently, John is the Lead Mechanical Engineer at MicroVision, where they oversee mechanical engineering activities. John previously held the role of Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer.

John Malcolm holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington.
