David MacFarlane

David MacFarlane has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of cybersecurity. David is currently working as the Head of Cyber Security at Miovision since August 2021. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Operating Officer at Palitronica from January to August 2021.

From December 2019 to August 2020, David worked as the Consulting Director, Security Services at Arctic Wolf Networks. In this role, they managed daily operations and provided cybersecurity consulting services to a wide range of customers.

From April 2016 to July 2019, David held the position of President & General Manager at ESCRYPT - Embedded Security. David was responsible for creating and leading an automotive security startup within the Bosch group, overseeing various functions including product management, engineering, and community engagement.

David also has a significant tenure at BlackBerry, where they held multiple positions. As Senior Director, Infrastructure Platforms Security, they led the cybersecurity function and ensured the protection of assets and services in corporate and private cloud environments. David also led the security certification and compliance function, building confidence in the security ecosystem of BlackBerry products and services.

Prior to their time at BlackBerry, David worked at EWA-Canada as a Senior IT Security Specialist and at Nortel Networks as a Software Designer.

Throughout their career, David MacFarlane has demonstrated expertise in various aspects of cybersecurity, including consulting, management, and product development.

David MacFarlane has a comprehensive education background, having pursued various degrees and certifications throughout their career. In 1992, they enrolled at the University of Prince Edward Island, where they studied Mathematics and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree. Concurrently, they also pursued a Diploma in Engineering (Dipl.Eng.) from the same university.

Later, David attended the University of Waterloo from 1996 to 1998, where they focused on Mathematics and earned a Master of Mathematics (M.Math) degree.

In 2019, they expanded their skillset by completing the Design Thinking Fundamentals course at Communitech Academy.

Furthermore, David MacFarlane obtained the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)² in May 2023, further enhancing their expertise in the field.
