James Martherus

James Martherus has a diverse background in research and analytics. James currently works as a Senior Manager of Research Science at Morning Consult, where they have built internal applications to monitor data quality and automate weighting target generation. James implemented weighting adjustments to reduce bias and audited analytics offerings used by the organization.

Prior to their current role, James worked at YouGov as a Senior Survey Analytics Analyst. James provided methodological consultation to clients and project managers, designed survey weights, and built custom sampling frames. James also created YouGov's internal analytics wiki, which is instrumental in onboarding new analysts.

James gained research experience at Vanderbilt University, where they worked as a Graduate Researcher. James managed a team and conducted surveys of Vanderbilt undergraduates. James also performed topic modeling, content analysis, and sentiment analysis on text data from newspapers and Twitter API. Additionally, they designed and analyzed surveys using crowd-sourced and national samples.

James Martherus completed their education with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University in the period from 2009 to 2016. Subsequently, from 2016 to 2019, they pursued their Master of Arts degree in Political Science and Government at Vanderbilt University. Following this, James Martherus obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science from Vanderbilt University, completing their studies in 2020. In addition to their formal education, they also obtained a certification in Practical Machine Learning from Coursera Course Certificates in October 2016.
