Cathy Solomon

Cathy Solomon served as Chief Operating Officer of N Street Village, Washington DC’s largest provider of housing and support services to homeless and low-income women, before retiring in July 2021. She was previously a political appointee in the Obama Administration, most recently as the Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Executive Office of the President’s Office of Administration, which provides the infrastructure and administrative support that enables the White House to run efficiently and effectively. Cathy also served as Chief Financial Officer for the Executive Office of the President.

For the first two years of the Obama Administration, Cathy served as Adviser for Recovery Act Implementation in the U.S. Department of Education, where she led the transparency and accountability program for the Department’s $97 billion in Recovery Act funding. Cathy previously managed the budget for the Presidential Transition Team, and served as a Budget Director and Financial Operations Director on the 2008 Obama presidential campaign.

Cathy was inspired to join the Obama campaign team through her interest in education reform. As a community volunteer in Chicago, she had witnessed first-hand the role that quality education could play in ending the cycle of poverty. Before her shift to the public sector, Cathy managed and consulted to iconic consumer businesses including Life Cereal, Quaker Oat Bran, and Quaker Rice Cakes for the Quaker Oats Company. Cathy has a B.A. from Dartmouth College, where she majored in Math and Social Sciences, and an M.B.A. from Stanford University. She also pursued graduate study in education policy at the University of Chicago. Cathy and her husband live in Washington, D.C., and have two daughters.
