Jennifer Gardell

Associate Director, Translational Science at Mozart Therapeutics

Jennifer Gardell, Ph.D., has a diverse work experience spanning various positions in the field of biomedical research. Their most recent role is as an Associate Director of Translational Science at Mozart Therapeutics, Inc since June 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Scientist and Lead Program at the same company from April 2021 to May 2022.

Before joining Mozart Therapeutics, Dr. Gardell served as a Scientist II in Immuno-Oncology at SystImmune from October 2020 to March 2021. In this role, they developed and conducted large-scale in vitro assays to evaluate the potency and efficacy of multi-specific antibodies for cancer treatment, contributing to the reporting of multiple Investigational New Drug (IND) applications.

From January 2017 to September 2020, they worked at Seattle Children's as a Research Scientist IV, focusing on exploring novel cancer immunotherapy treatments for glioblastoma. Their work involved engineering macrophages to deliver bispecific antibodies and cytokines to stimulate immune responses within the tumor microenvironment.

Dr. Gardell's earlier experiences include serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Graduate Student at Oregon Health and Science University from 2008 to 2017. During this time, they conducted research on CD40 ligand transfer by helper T cells to antigen-presenting B cells and studied the role of preformed CD40 ligand in the activation of antigen-presenting cells.

Jennifer also has experience outside the research field, having worked as an After School Science Enrichment Instructor at Metropolitan Family Service from January to June 2016, teaching science classes to fourth and fifth graders. Prior to that, they served as a Research Associate at UCSF/California Pacific Medical Center from January 2005 to August 2008, where they developed cell-based assays to study the role of Human Herpesvirus-6 and evaluated patient immune responses in clinical trials.

Dr. Gardell's earlier roles include working as a Laboratory Manager at Cornell University Veterinary Medical Center from May 2002 to January 2005, investigating the use of Bacteria Artificial Chromosomes for vaccine development and assisting in viral challenge experiments in animal models. Additionally, they worked as a Laboratory Technician in the Ecology Department at Cornell University from May 2000 to May 2002, studying the effects of Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus on different grass species and creating a database to study fungal pathogens.

Overall, Dr. Gardell's work experience demonstrates their expertise in translational science, cancer immunotherapy, molecular biology, and vaccine development.

Jennifer Gardell, Ph.D. holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, which they obtained from Cornell University between 1998 and 2002. Later on, from 2008 to 2015, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Microbiology and Immunology at Oregon Health & Science University.
