Michael Franklin

Acting Software Lead at Murdoch Childrens Research Institute

Michael Franklin has a diverse work experience in various organizations and roles. Michael started their career as a Software Intern at the Bureau of Meteorology, where they developed the verification segment of the Air Quality Forecast project. Michael then worked as a Monash Undergraduate Research Project Abroad (MURPA) scholar at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), where they adapted a virtual reality application for river disaster management.

After that, Michael joined Compass Education Australia as a Software Engineer, where they managed the development and design of the mobile platform and improved the stability of iOS applications. Michael then worked as a Research Software Engineer at the University of Melbourne, where they developed the Portable Pipeline Solution and created the Janis framework for constructing computational workflows.

Michael's most recent experience includes working at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) as an Acting Software Lead and a Senior Software Engineer at the Centre for Population Genomics.

Michael Franklin attended John Monash Science School from 2012 to 2014, where they obtained a Victorian Certificate of Education. From 2015 to 2018, they studied at Monash University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Computer Science, with a focus on Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. Additionally, in 2013, they obtained a Certificate I in Vocational Preparation and a Certificate III in Hospitality from SMART Training and Job Placement.
