Joshua A. Carlisle

Josh has deep and broad experience, gained over a 20-year career as a US Army Officer, leading successful missions across complex organizations and operations. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy (USMA), West Point, and a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a graduate of numerous military schools, including the U.S. Army Transportation Officer Basic Course (TOBC), the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course (CLC3), and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC ILE). Over the course of his career, he deployed to multiple conflict zones: first to Sierra Leone, where he served as the sole US Army Officer in support of the British-led International Military Advisory and Training Team (IMATT) and as a member of the U.S. Ambassador’s Country Team; to OIF1 where he served as 21st Theater Support Command (TSC) Battle Captain, responsible for coordinating clearance onward movement of 4th Infantry Division personnel and equipment; and later to Afghanistan to advise Afghan Police in Laghman and Paktika Provinces. Josh served in multiple capacities at U.S. Army North to plan and conduct Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA), Homeland Defense (HD), and Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) training and operations in the U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) area of responsibility (AOR). As the Headquarters Battalion S3 and then XO, he synchronized staff activities and oversaw administrative and logistics support for the 1,000-plus-person headquarters. There, he was selected for further service as the Commanding General’s Speech Writer and Planner in the Commander’s Action Group (CAG). Josh joined NAIS after a final tour of duty teaching Philosophy at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel.
