Senior Director, Board On Chemical Sciences And Technology at National Academy of Sciences

Charles Ferguson is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in science and technology policy. Currently serving as Senior Director for the Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology and the Nuclear and Radiation Studies Board at The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine since August 2017, Ferguson leads efforts focused on chemical science issues and nuclear safety, security, and policy. Previously, as President of the Federation of American Scientists, Ferguson directed strategic planning for an organization dedicated to security analysis related to science and technology. Additional roles include Senior Fellow for Science and Technology at the Council on Foreign Relations, adjunct professor at Georgetown University, and scientist-in-residence at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies. Ferguson's earlier experience includes work as a Foreign Affairs Officer at the U.S. Department of State and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Maryland. Educational credentials encompass a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the United States Naval Academy and a Ph.D. in Physics from Boston University.
