Anna Simmons

Anna Simmons has a diverse range of work experience in the field of marine ecology and conservation. Starting in 2012, they worked as a Resident Assistant at Ball State University, where they facilitated community development and handled crisis situations.

In 2013, Anna interned at Leaird's Underwater Service as a Divemaster Intern, assisting with SCUBA instruction and customer service. Anna also worked as a Quarantine Intern at the John G. Shedd Aquarium, where they cared for a variety of aquatic species and conducted tank maintenance.

From 2014 to 2015, Anna held multiple roles at the REEF Environmental Education Foundation, including Marine Conservation Intern and Intern Leader. Anna conducted fish surveys, dissections, and outreach activities, and also trained and supervised interns.

In 2015, Anna joined Blue Ventures as a Field Scientist, leading marine science conservation expeditions and conducting research dives. Anna also led teams in invasive lionfish research in Belize.

From 2017 to 2020, Anna worked at the Marine Resources Development Foundation as a Citizen Science & Data Coordinator and Marine Ecology Field Instructor. Anna managed data entry for citizen science programs and taught students about South Florida's marine ecosystems.

Most recently, Anna worked as a Research Associate at the National Audubon Society, assessing the health of the Everglades ecosystem through monitoring projects. Anna collected fish samples, monitored subaquatic vegetation, and collected water quality data.

Anna Simmons obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Ball State University between the years 2010 and 2013. Anna also received various certifications, including Emergency Oxygen Provider from PADI in March 2015, Emergency First Responder from Emergency First Response in November 2014, Enriched Air Nitrox from PADI in September 2014, Level 2 Tropical Western Atlantic Fish Surveyor from Reef Environmental Education Foundation in September 2014, Divemaster from SCUBA Educators International in December 2013, Advanced Open Water from SCUBA Educators International in December 2012, 1 Star Diver from CMAS in November 2011, and Lifeguard from America Red Cross in December 2016.
