Mahmood Matooq has diverse work experience in the banking industry. Mahmood started their career as a Trainee in the Multi-Management Department at Citi in 2007, where they were responsible for managing fixed deposits, processing standing orders, and organizing bank documents. Mahmood then joined BMI Bank in 2010 as an Analyst, focusing on back-office operations such as maintaining transactions and auditing reports. In 2014, they joined Al Salam Bank-Bahrain as an Assistant Manager, where their responsibilities included supervising workflow, ensuring efficient completion of tasks, and suggesting improvements to processes and systems. Mahmood moved to ila Bank in 2019 as a Team Leader before joining the National Bank of Kuwait later that year. At the National Bank of Kuwait, they held the position of Manager from December 2019 to October 2021 before being promoted to Head of Central Operations.

Mahmood Matooq holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from Kingdom University, which they obtained between 2008 and 2009. Prior to that, they completed a Diploma in Finance and Accounts from the University of Bahrain between 2004 and 2008. Mahmood began their formal education in accounting and finance at Ahmad Al Omran Commercial School, where they earned their High School Certificate from 2001 to 2004.
