John Gillaspy

John Gillaspy has extensive experience in the fields of physics and research management, currently serving as a Guest Scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) since September 1988, focusing on quantum measurement. Previously, Gillaspy contributed to atomic physics research and development, specializing in areas such as atomic spectroscopy and ion trapping. As Program Director for the Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Experimental Physics at the National Science Foundation, Gillaspy managed a substantial research portfolio supporting numerous scientists and engineers. Other significant roles included senior positions within the NSF’s Mathematical & Physical Sciences Directorate and experience at Harvard University, where Gillaspy was involved in both research and teaching. Gillaspy holds a PhD in Physics from Harvard University and a BS in Physics from Stanford University.
