Brent Miller

Acting Deputy Office Head at National Science Foundation

Brent Miller is the Acting Deputy Office Head at National Science Foundation. Prior to their current position, they worked as a Research Staff Member at IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute from May 2010 to February 2013. There, they provided policy analysis, planning, and writing for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in the areas of biological sciences and biotechnology. Brent also developed and implemented federal research and development program evaluations, working with federal program stakeholders including academic, industry, and government representatives. In addition, they prepared formal written reports and recommendations for federal agencies, and prepared and delivered oral presentations to federal management, task forces, and working groups. Brent has also assisted federal sponsors with strategic planning in the past, as well as performing quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Prior to their time at IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute, Brent Miller served as Science Advisor at Wellcome Trust from October 2008 to May 2010.

Brent Miller received their BS in Neurobiology and Physiology from Purdue University. Brent then went on to earn their Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology - Reproduction from the University of California, Davis. Currently, they are completing post-doctoral studies in Developmental Neurobiology at the University of California, San Diego.

Their manager is Sethuraman Panchanathan, Director. Brent Miller works with Timothy Patten - Deputy Assistant Director, Sarah Williams - Acting Deputy Office Head, Office of Equity & Civil Rights, and Kendra Sharp - Office Head, International Science & Engineering.
