Carolyn Gugger PhD, RD has extensive work experience in the fields of regulatory and scientific affairs, nutrition research and innovation, and sensory science. Carolyn currently serves as the Director of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs at Nature's Way, where they oversee the regulatory compliance and scientific research efforts. Prior to that, Carolyn held the position of Director of Scientific Affairs and Product Safety at the same company.
Before joining Nature's Way, Carolyn worked for General Mills for over 17 years, holding various roles. As an Associate Principal Sensory Scientist, they led product guidance research for the dairy category, utilizing qualitative and quantitative research approaches to enhance product design and enable informed decision making. Carolyn also served as a Program Lead, responsible for conducting dietary intake research studies to understand eating patterns and nutrient contribution in support of regulatory positions. Additionally, Carolyn served as a Platform Lead, overseeing nutrition science research to support product innovation and establish science-based health and wellness messages. Carolyn successfully conducted observational, preclinical, and clinical studies on key platforms such as dairy, protein, weight management/satiety, metabolic, and bone health.
In an earlier role as a Senior Nutrition Scientist at General Mills, Carolyn provided strategic leadership to advance health and nutrition strategies across key businesses in the United States. Carolyn identified health opportunities for flagship brands and managed a team of nutrition professionals. Carolyn also managed the Whole Grain Research Program, overseeing external research endeavors to build scientific evidence supporting the health benefits of whole grain. Carolyn provided scientific support for FDA Citizen's Petition and contributed to corporate comments to the USDA 2005 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.

Carolyn Gugger, PhD, RD, obtained their PhD in Nutrition Science from the University of Manitoba. Prior to that, they completed a Dietetic Internship (Clinical) at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Canada. Carolyn also holds a Bachelor of Human Ecology degree in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Manitoba. In addition to their academic qualifications, Carolyn has a certification as a Certified Food Manager.
