Marine Data, Reporting & Assessment at NatureScot

My key responsibilities include:

Lead the development and coordinate delivery of NatureScot’s marine data management, assessment and reporting programmes.

Influence NatureScot strategic discussions, and work closely with other Activity Teams, to ensure effective management and use of marine data in the organisation.

Work jointly with NatureScot managers to devise a rolling programme of data management / updates to service key reporting and assessment commitments (e.g. SBS, OSPAR, Article 17, UKMS, SMA, MSA, WCA, SCCAP etc.).

Coordinate ME/SCS specialist input into marine biodiversity and MPA-related reporting and assessment tasks.

Manage a team of technical staff. Oversee the delivery of work led by the team (data management and review /development of indicators) and flag issues relating to successful programme delivery.

Provide a quality assurance role in relation to the interpretation and application of evidence where required.

Promote results of our reporting and assessment work - inform understanding of the State of Scotland’s Seas and help ensure support for conservation action.

Develop good working relationships with key partners (Marine Scotland, JNCC etc.) and other stakeholders working on marine data management, biodiversity assessments, Scottish and wider UK reporting.

Attend NatureScot internal meetings and contribute to the wider work of the Activity Team, as required.
