Mihail Pivtoraiko has a long and varied work experience. Starting in 2002, they were a Robotics Engineer Intern at Intel Corporation, where they were the primary software engineer for the "Stayton" project. In 2003, they became a Graduate Student at Carnegie Mellon University, and in 2005 they were an Associate Member of Technical Staff at JPL (NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory). In 2006, they became a PhD Candidate at Carnegie Mellon University and in 2012 they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2014, they were the Owner of Kashtan Consulting and the Founder and CEO of Aptonomy, Inc., a venture-backed startup that built the first fully autonomous drone for physical security. In 2016, they were a Finalist at G-Startup Worldwide and a Startup Founder in the Summer 2016 batch at Y Combinator, where they were ranked #1 startup on Demo day. Finally, in 2019, they became Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at NavTrac.
Mihail Pivtoraiko obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University between 2006 and 2012.
