Before that, they worked as a Project Accountant (Trainee Accountant) at GEC Marconi from 1995 to 1997.

Mairianne Stewart's education history includes several notable achievements. In 1988, they completed their O Grades at St. Margaret's High in Airdrie, achieving first-time passes in 9 different subjects. The following year, they obtained their H Grades at the same institution, achieving the same feat in 6 subjects.

Moving forward, Mairianne attended the University of Aberdeen from 1990 to 1994, where they obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Accounting. Continuing their education, they enrolled at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants from 1996 to 2000, specializing in Commercial Accounting. During this period, they passed the Association of Chartered Management Accountants examination on their first attempt, earning their the certification.

Mairianne pursued further professional development in the field of information systems auditing, gaining the Chartered Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designation in 2009. In 2018 and 2019, they completed the Agile Leadership Programme, which focused on enhancing their leadership skills.

Additionally, Mairianne participated in several executive programs, including the Executive Women Leadership Programme in 2019 and the IRM Certification program offered by the Institute of Risk Management in the same year.
