Elan Cole has a diverse and extensive work experience in the creative industry. Elan began their career as a Design Director at The Museum of Modern Art in 2002, where they worked until 2006. Elan then joined Johnson & Johnson as the Global Creative Director and held this position until 2012. Afterward, they worked at Anomaly as the Director of Design and Innovation in 2012. From 2013 to 2014, they served as the Global Executive Creative Director for Consumer Brands at Interbrand. In 2016, they worked as a Freelance ECD at Comcast. In 2017, they became a Mentor in Branding at SVA Groundfloor Incubator and joined NYC & Company as a Creative Director. In 2018, they were promoted to Executive Creative Director, and in 2022, they became the Executive Vice President. Additionally, Elan Cole is a Board Member at NYCxDESIGN since 2020. Elan also owns their own business, The Future Is Forever, since 2014.

Elan Cole completed their Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Graphic Design and Photography from the University of Michigan between 1988 and 1992. In 2007, they attended the Harvard Business School for a course titled "AIGA Business Issues for Design Leaders". The field of study for this course was not specified.
