Nicholas C. Munson

Nicholas C. Munson serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer of New York Community Bancorp, Inc. He was appointed Chief Risk Officer on July 25, 2019, and joined NYCB on April 2, 2018, as the Chief Audit Executive. As the CRO, Mr. Munson is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining an effective risk management program that aligns with applicable regulatory guidance and is commensurate with the Company’s size, scope, and complexity. Mr. Munson’s team provides independent risk management oversight and guidance for managing risk and ensuring compliance, including the development of risk management measures, across the Company.

Prior to joining NYCB, Mr. Munson was a Managing Director, Executive Audit Manager, and Transformation Leader at GE Capital, where he had global responsibility for transforming the global audit function to meet heightened regulatory standards as a non-bank SIFI. Prior to joining GE Capital, Mr. Munson spent 15 years at Goldman Sachs Internal Audit in New York, Chicago, and Tokyo where he had a number of senior leadership roles, including Deputy Audit Executive of Capital Markets, Asia Head of Capital Markets Audit, Co-head of Tokyo Internal Audit, and Global Head of the Audit Practices Group. Mr. Munson began his career in public accounting, including two years at KPMG in New York City in its financial services assurance practice.

Mr. Munson holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from Hofstra University and is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, and Project Management Professional.
