Gillian Smith has extensive experience in marketing and communications, beginning with their role as a Fulbright Scholar teaching English in a German secondary school from 1995-1996. Gillian then joined The Coca-Cola Company in 1996 as a Brand Manager, responsible for all marketing aspects of the Fanta brand, including management of a $20 million budget. In 1999, they became a Product Marketing Manager at Jarden Consumer Solutions, managing all marketing mix elements of various Sunbeam and Oster household appliances. From 2000-2007, they were the Senior Director of Media and Interactive at Burger King Corporation, managing a media budget exceeding $250 million. From 2007-2011, they were the Chief Marketing Officer at Teach For America, and from 2011-2017 they were the Chief Marketing Officer at City Year. In 2017, they joined LEGOLAND Florida Resort as Vice President of Marketing and Sales, and in 2019 they founded Carambola Consulting. Most recently, in 2021, they joined NextNav as Vice President of Marketing.

Gillian Smith attended Rollins College from 1992 to 1995, graduating with an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and German. Prior to that, they attended Ridgefield High School.
