Career Overview

An Outside Plant Engineer I is a position that supports the ongoing requirements of the growth and development of the NoaNet network. As the Outside Plant Engineer I your responsibilities will include a great deal of time in the field taking notes about the Outside Plant environment as NoaNet deploys new fiber infrastructure in the state of Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare drawings for construction of new, and removal or rearrangement of existing, overhead or underground lines, cables, and conduits to obtain optimum and economical utilization of communications facilities

  • Prepare permit applications (WSDOT/ODOT/County/City) for easements, encroachments, and use of public right ofways

  • Communicate with customers to review routing of NoaNet Fiber facilities

  • Design pathway to the Fiber termination location using a combination of the internal design tools and field site verification

  • Prepare detailed construction and installation drawings, estimates for equipment, labor, and material costs using tools provided by NoaNet

  • Prepare engineering and design prints per NoaNet standards

  • Coordinate with a contractor to schedule pending work orders

  • Invoice verification with units designed vs used on the projects. Initiate work authorization request withsubstantiating drawings and documents for approval

  • Perform field surveys and site surveys for middle mile and fiber to the home projects

  • Maintain, upkeep and develop project documentation

  • Construction management and inspection of outside plant projects

  • Taking and collecting pole attachment information and providing applications for joint use

  • Identification and management of the current infrastructure as well as new deployments

  • Applying engineering design standards to aerial and underground pole/line cable including Joint- Use and Make Ready

  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Training, Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • 1-5 years’ experience in outside plant engineering, construction management and
  • Facilities management and design is preferred
  • PC literate and should have experience in word processing and use of spreadsheet software packages
  • Working knowledge of network protocols, telecommunications equipment layout
  • Ability to use Visio, Bluebeam, AutoCad, or other drafting solutions is desired
  • Experience in OTDR and Spectrum Analyzers, Link Loss Budgets,
  • Experience using fiber management software applications and Geospatial Information Systems

Availability and Travel Requirements

  • Position requires on call and 24-hour availability
  • Frequent travel is required

Other Requirements

  • Driving a company car may be required: must have a valid current, state issued driver’s license with a clean driving record; must be able to provide proof of valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50+ pounds
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain
