Daniel Caddell has worked in various roles in the scientific field since 2008. Daniel began their career as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at the University of California San Diego. In 2010, they moved to the University of California Davis, where they were a Graduate Student Researcher, Graduate Teaching Assistant, and Graduate Teaching Assistant. In 2014, they were a Visiting Scholar at the International Rice Research Institute. In 2016, they were an Industry Intern at Hortigenetics Research (S.E. Asia) Limited, where they developed genetic markers to distinguish isolates of Colletotrichum spp. and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. In 2017, they were a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California Berkeley, where they explored ways to minimize future challenges of growing food during long-duration manned space missions. From 2018 to 2021, they were a Research Biologist at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS). Here, they used a combination of Illumina and PacBio CCS-based 16s rRNA profiling, metabolomics, and transcriptomics to understand whether shifts in bacterial composition are a direct consequence of changes in host metabolism. In 2021, they began working as a Scientist at Nobell Foods.
Daniel Caddell received a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UC San Diego in 2010. Daniel then went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Plant Biology with a Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology from the University of California, Davis, which they completed in 2017.
