Christoph Basten

Christoph Basten is a Senior Lead Economist at the Europäische Zentralbank since July 2024 and an Associate Research Fellow at Norges Bank since February 2021, focusing on deposit markets research. Previously, Christoph served as an Assistant Professor of Banking and Finance at the University of Zurich from August 2017 to July 2024, conducting research on macroprudential regulation, mortgage and real estate markets, and FinTech, while also teaching various courses across different academic levels. Additional experience includes roles as a Visiting Scholar at NYU Stern School of Business, an Economist at FINMA, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at ETH Zurich, and an Economics Researcher at the European University Institute. Christoph holds a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute, and has undertaken further studies at Harvard University, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and the University of Oxford.
