Our Company: North Carolina FC Youth (NCFC Youth) is a non-profit youth soccer organization home to more than 16,000 players (ages 2.5-19) and their families each year. Through full-service programming, NCFC Youth offers youth soccer for all levels of play – from Recreation and outreach programs up to the highest levels of elite competition. In addition, NCFC Youth hosts tournaments, camps, and other events to ensure the best player development opportunities. 

NCFC Youth’s on and off field operations are supported by more than 1,700 personnel including full-time staff, seasonal coaches, and volunteer coaches. In collaboration with the professional North Carolina Football Club, home to NC Courage (NWSL) and North Carolina FC (USL Championship), NCFC Youth is the largest youth-to-professional club in the country and offers a pipeline of player development including U-23s, amateur & academy contracts, and professional contracts in addition to coaching development opportunities.

The Position: The Assistant Director of Goalkeeping is responsible for assisting the Goalkeeping Director with overall training, administration, coordination, and evaluation of the goalkeeper program. This position requires coaching sessions as assigned by the Director of Goalkeeping.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist and help manage GK training schedule for whole club.
  • Works with Director to implement the curriculum and periodization plan of goalkeeper training.
  • Observation of top talent along the GK pathway to help with integration.
  • Provide 2-3 elite level GK Training sessions Monday through Thursday.
  • Attend games on weekends to observe development of GKs within a game environment.
  • Create a calendar for weekend games that can be shared with PT staff and assign PT staff coaches to watch GK’s in match situations.
  • Travel with Academy/ECNL teams to assigned events.
  • Identify and recruit top GK’s from outside of the club and within our program.
  • Follow GK curriculum.
  • Assist with management of PT GK staff –Approx. 15 coaches across all regions/locations.
  • Assist with educating PT GK Staff on Training Plan/curriculum to ensure consistency with methodology.
  • Use GK Handbook to continue to develop and nurture the GK culture within our club.
  • Use technology/Video to support development of GKs.
  • Develop innovative ways to aid the development of GKs.
  • Help oversee GK evaluations at the midpoint and end of each season and coordinate with PT staff so that there is consistency with evaluation process.
  • Assist with Academy GK IDPs.
  • Assist with day-to-day correspondence with goalkeeper families, ensuring consistency and quality across all levels of the club.
  • Help oversee tryout/evaluation of all GK’s within the club along with support staff.
  • Assist with communication during tryout/evaluation process for all GKs.
  • Assist with GK team selection with support for AGDs/Program Directors for all teams.
  • Assist with all GK Supplemental programs – Elite Technique/Camps/Tournaments.
  • Take the lead on all GK Showcases during NCFC Showcase Series (Staffing, session design, execution, and communication).
  • Liaise with all directors to ensure internal communication is both efficient and effective.
  • Work with social media and Marketing department to help highlight and promote the GK Program.
  • Work day-to-day with other coaches/directors to ensure the program runs smoothly.
  • Expected to remain current and familiar with all GK player information.
  • Oversee and keep GK Depth chart up to date across all programs/levels.
  • Mandatory reporter of abuse. Must report all suspected abuse within 24 hours using the Abuse Prevention Report.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
  • Previous knowledge of and experience in the goalkeeper position
  • Ability to prove they are starting their pathway in coaching education

Job Type Requirements:

  • Fulltime; salaried position.

  • Typical work hours are 10am – 2pm 4 days per week, in the office, 4pm-8pm on the field. It is expected that this individual will work from home as needed and put in extra hours inside and outside the office to fulfill all job requirements.

  • Must have ability to work weekends for youth soccer games, special events, and support all club events

Work Environment/Travel/Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Most of this person’s job is conducted on the field. Work will require this employee to attend outdoor youth sporting events during all seasons, including extreme temperatures and inclement weather, to fulfill job responsibilities and event support
  • Physical demands: Training, bending, sitting, lifting, and event set-up
