William J. Coleman

William J. Coleman has a long and successful career in biochemistry. William J. began their career in 1996 as Chief Scientific Officer and Director of Biochemistry at Kairos Scientific, Inc. where they directed multidisciplinary research teams and obtained funding for directed-evolution based improvements in industrial and biofuel enzymes for corporate clients. In 2008, they moved to Protelica, Inc. as Director of Enzyme Engineering, where they supervised and participated in the company's directed evolution program. In 2011, they joined Intrexon Corporation as Associate Director of Assay Development and Screening Operations, where they co-founded the methane bioconversion project for biofuels (gas-to-liquids) and chemicals at the Industrial Products Division. In 2014, they joined NovoNutrients as a Distinguished Scientist and Vice President of Biology, leading the engineering and development of novel bacterial strains to capture and convert industrial carbon dioxide emissions into animal feed, nutraceuticals and other valuable products.

William J. Coleman has a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a B.A. in Biology and General Literature from the University of Pennsylvania, and a MSHA certification. William J. has also held various postdoctoral positions, including a Visiting Research Scientist (Postdoctoral Fellow) at E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., a Human Frontier Science Program Postdoctoral Fellow at CEA-Saclay in Paris, France, and an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Coleman attended the Hawken School as well.
